iStateBariStateBar guide
Looking for an iStat Menus alternative?
iStat Menus is a long-established, comprehensive Mac monitor. If you mostly want a calm, readable menu bar, memory numbers that match Activity Monitor and a one-time price, iStateBar may suit you better.
When iStateBar is a good fit
- You check memory often and want Memory Used, Cached Files, Swap and Memory Pressure to read the same as in Activity Monitor.
- You prefer one compact bar with a color for each module to a row of separate menu bar icons.
- You want to drag the bar onto your desktop as a floating monitor and drop it back.
- You prefer a one-time purchase to a subscription.
When another tool may suit you better
- You need manual fan control. iStateBar shows fan speeds but does not set them.
- You want per-process network details, weather or world clocks in the menu bar.
- You use the Mac App Store edition and need temperature or fan readings; those are in the website edition.
What iStateBar shows
Memory
Memory used, cached files, swap and a color-coded memory pressure chart.
CPU / GPU
Overall activity as compact bars or a history chart, with separate colors.
Network
Live upload and download rates with recent peaks.
Temperature and fans
CPU temperature and fan speeds in the website edition. Fanless Macs hide the fan module.
